1943 D Wheat Cent... Doubling?

    Hi There CT,
    It appears that there is doubling under and to the side of 1943 and the mint mark D. Is this doubling or is this the bold mint mark. If so what is it worth. If it is worth something, is it worth grading. Thanks... Noah

    It looks like DDD to me. Hub doubling (AKA doubled die) would not affect the mintmark since they were punched by hand into the working dies, which would have been after the hubbing process.

    No, die deterioration doubing (DDD) is a common error. As the working dies wear out from striking coins, it can cause a "doubling" that flows outward on them and shows up on the coins that it strikes. This is what happened to yours. Because this is a very common occurrence, it adds little to no value.
