Bought this half this morning and after looking at it noticed the S in United States on the back is Missing. Don't see any obvious damage to the coin so wondering if this could be a "Filled die" error ? ***Should be a 1943-S W.L. Half

It's always possible that this coin was produced for the family of Sharon Tate, but I'm inclined to believe that it was the result of a grease-filled die.

    I'm thinking Dremel Tooled.

I see no signs of any wear, damage or marks on the coin. I would think that would cause damage to the coin.

That would depend on which attachment was used.

I see no signs of this being tooled so I'm inclined to agree with Chris. With the amount of wear on the reverse and a grease filled die when it was minted this would be the normal result.

The person I bought this from knows I collect coins. They are a cashier at the place I work. They said someone brought it to them yesterday and wanted 2 quarters in change so they could get something out of a vending machine. She had no idea what it was worth she just knew it was old.

You did well. At a minimum it's worth about six bucks.

It pays to be the middleman or woman in this case.
