http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380014509186 Takes about a fair amount of scrolling to reveal these are plated.
I just reported the seller to Ebay for listing bogus/plated 1943 cents as bronze/copper in each of the listings below. Thanks to anyone who will do the same. Here is a link that should work : http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...Coins+&wftype=2022&userid=&pass=&redirected=1 Item numbers: 380013041419, 380014917399, 380014509186, 380014718172, 380015088769, 380014511627, 380015172385, 380015088553, 380015412775, 380015504304, 380015006532, 380014677895, 380015503972, 380015505148, 380014512640, 380015067094, 380015108233
Hey lets just flood the market with fake 43's. Its not like some hasn't already produced and sold into market god knows how many re-zinc 43's and selling them as CH BU. I don't know if e-bay will stop this. The sellers state they are fakes. Thus they become novelties...right???
But in his listing titles, the seller incorrectly/misleadingly lists them as "Copper Bronze", without noting the fact that they are plated.
Thanks! Unfortunately, it didn't get to me more than many other listings do. I do quite a bit of reporting to Ebay.
It took a few pictures, a history lesson, and boasting of potential windfall to get to the plated part of the auction. I say ban him.
I agree with you Mark, this kind of trading kills the life breath for so many newcomers to numismatics. Along with China flooding the market with fake halves and dollars what's next, oh I know lets get a few hundred thousand 1913 V nickels, CH BU of course. I just get so frustrated that e-bay doesn't act accordingly and hasn't from the get. I feel sorry for all those that will feel the pain down the road. I have given up on e-bay for any transaction else I would have acted as you requested. Keep up the good work in any case. I didn't mean to offend.
Not sure why the nut just didn't list them all as really great novelty items and just plated, great conditioned Steel cents. I'm sure many would have purchases them as novelties for a dollar or two. Although it all depends on how much he invested in the plating process. This sort of goes along with the painted coins and those do sell so why not just say they are fakes up front?
No offense taken, whatsoever. I get extremely frustrated with Ebay myself, and frequently consider not bothering to report any more. But sometimes I am able to get them to pull misleading or fraudulent auctions and it makes the effort worthwhile.
They pulled several of them, but he just keeps relisting them. Here is is current listings. 380016124811 380016177921 380016210368 380015802468 380015813625 380015846896 380016124187 380016177774 380016195394 380016209869 380015777828 380015847127 380016124416 380016177532 380016210114 380015729230 380015802659 380015847249 380016123969 380016177607 380016209962 380016196200 380016193147
he clearly states in his listing description that they are fakes. This is a Real 1943 GEM BU Zinc/Steel Cent, Layered in Pure Copper. Up for bid is a UNIQUE 1943 GEM BU Copper Plated Zinc/Steel Cent/Penny. It will be either 1943, 1943D or 1943S mint. I guess I don't see this as being any different than the spoof auctions really. If your smart enough to know how rare these are then you should be smart enough to read the whole description. Devious? Yea but so are 80% of ebay sellers if the truth be told.
I reported them again and this time they pulled them all. As to why, they are "replica" coins. This is eBay's rule for replicas:
Still at it. It seems now he's desperate to dump his coins as now he's offering 12 coin "lots."Here is the specific list of his auction offerings for coins only from his sellers list: http://coins.search.ebay.com/_Coins-Paper-Money_W0QQcatrefZC12QQsacatZ11116QQsassZnetdistro
