Kinda' img138.jpg img138.jpg posting this for Eddio as he loves Canada coins. Going through a junk box of mine tonight and found this.

I don't see any shift of the date but there is a crack coming off the bottom of the 4 and a "tail" coming off the bottom of the 3. Plus, check next to the S on Georgivs, there appears to be a numeral 1 right next to it. A possible clash from the dated side.

The alloy tombac was an unknown quantity to the Mint, in terms of how to get the best results and sharpest strikes. I think the 1942-43 nickels had more cracks and laminations than any other dates in the entire series.

You just enlightened me. I thought Tombac was a French term relating to the coin. I did not know it was an alloy. Thanks!

Tombac is one of many, many alloys of brass, but with a rather high percentage of copper (88%) and a low percentage of zinc (12%).

Very nice, especially the reverse crack, Tombacks have lots of character, one of my favorite coins.
