Well I;m not familier with that variety, but it looks like die deterioration doubling. I see some signs near the date of a orange peel effect which indicates DDD ,but not sure on this one . I don;t see any notching on the letters and in general not much doubling I see in the Pics . When you have to look that hard for a doubled die with alot of magnification and when the doubling is so minute I don;t think it's worth the effort ,and there not worth that much anyway. Just my opinion, Jazzcoins Joe
I'm not ready to pronounce it dead yet. When you magnify the full shot, you can see what might be the right doubling on the 2 and on the upper eye lid. On the 2, it is to the right upper part of the outside curve. There should be strong doubling on the nose and on the line that creates the nostril. Lets see some closeups of the eye lid and the nose. So i am not saying it is or isn't yet. I need to see more to know for sure. Also, this die variety is only on the nickel version of the Philadelphia Mint coin. You calling it nickel Silver in your title is confusing. Which is it? Thanks, Bill
I;m not disagreeing with you at this stage of the game Bill/ but look at the indications of die errosin were i pointed out in red. The coin like I said in my earlier post does not indicate enough doubling to judge minute. jazzcoins Joe
Hi jazzcoins, I agree there are signs of die deterioration on this coin. No question about that. The dead giveaway to tell me if this is the DDO would be the nose and I haven't seen a picture of that yet. Also, rockdude is right in that there are a lot of die polishing lines. Since I haven't committed to anything one way or another yet, we can't disagree yet I might agree with you completely after i see a picture of the nose Thanks, Bill
