1942 s penny

    I found this 1942 s penny the obv side is pmd i think, but the rev is what I'm wondering about. Any commints would be nice, also about what it might be worth. Thanks

    It looks to me that whatever happened to this coin happened in the decades after it was minted. So, this is post mint damage and actually makes the coin worth less. Although, it certainly is an interesting and fun find.

    Looks like someone attached a handle to the obverse so they could sand off the reverse on a belt sander. Metal polishers will attach a stick or rod to the back of small parts so they don't loose control while working. Just a guess.

    When the high heat source was applied all those details on the reverse had to go somewhere, and the bubbled up through the obverse. That's my WAG! :D Dfinitely PMD on both though.

    A quick guess would be silver solder on the obv and a belt sander on the rev.
