I was wondering if somebody could help me out I'm having a difficult time distinguishing that the mintmark if it's the trumpet type or what kind of s??? Also do you think this is worth sending in to be graded?
Why do you think it should be graded? Just asking to see your opinion. I don’t think it’s a candidate for grading. It appears porous and well circulated. It also looks like a normal S mint Mark. The trumpet tail variety is for the 1943-S not the 1942-S.
Awesome, thaks for the info...im new to collecting and i appreciate your views. As far as grading. I just thought maybe its a decent coin that was worth it. I guess its not so i wont
This is the place I learned. It’s a great place to ask questions and learn. Use the search feature in the top right corner. There are tons of great threads on how to grade coins, how to detect cleaning, and issues like environmental damage. There is also a great app called Photograde. It’s a great resource to learn what wear looks like in a photograph of a coin. Also coinfacts is a great resource - use the varieties button on the coin dates/mints and there are often great photos showing the tails for identifying varieties. Pun intended.. trumpet tail Also have fun! Good luck!!
Older key dates with sharp details, i.e. 'split bands' might be worth sending in for grading, but not the one you showed
Chiming in...agree, too much wear. Also, notice the plethora of contact marks in the fields. The crux of the decision to send for grading is: will the value of the coin after grading support the cost of grading? Unless you have an emotional reason for having a coin graded, the coin needs to roughly be worth more than $100-150...just my honest opinion...Spark
