1942-S Jefferson 5c Obverse: Doubled, Deteriorated, or Damaged Die?

    I can't match this to anything on Variety Vista. Which could mean it's too common to list. What do you fine folks think?

    Pay close attention to the die scratches in BER of LIBERTY .

    My educated idiots guess is its not a doubled die, die deterioration is obvious enough. I first wanted to say, "All of the above," but this type of apparent doubling might have occurred when the machine/parts is loose and the die rattles loose gets out of control. Cool looking coin, lot of character and in great shape.
    Hey, I confess to the educated idiot thing, but "I" am the one who "coined" the term, "Zinkie" when referring to a ''Shield" backed cent.

    Looks good to me! Rick hit the nail on the head. I also see the die crack at the top of the head.

    My money on die #2 over at Brian's site .
    OP is a early die state too .....

    PCGS gave it a disappointing 64. The six other war nickels in that sub graded 65 to 66+ (two of each).

    How about a close up of that mint-mark ...
    Remember yours is a EDS ..

    Sometimes cracks don't start til later in the die state ...
