I received a penny, a 1942 s wheat penny. It has a mint error on reverse side. The last a in America is missing. Has there been any reports of 1942 s penny having this error
The most likely cause is grease from the process filling the letter on the die striking the coin. No enhanced value as 'mechanical' damage. Photo is needed for any other evaluation of it.
There are probably thousands of coins of all denominations with a letter or more missing. As stated, most likely a Grease Filled Die issue.
