Just looking thru my Jeffersons and noticed an RPM on the 1942 P. Looks to me to be the P/P/P #7? Variety Vista does not have a listing of this particular variety, any other Jefferson specific site as a resource? Thanks!
Thanks, think I found it. This looks to be the 1 not 7...just re-discovered Wexler's site 1942-P 5¢ WRPM-001 Description: P/P/P/P West, West & South It also has the Die Marker: Small round die gouge inside the C of AMERICA left of center.
From the pics, I wasn't sure which one, until I saw the marker above on the "U"--that clinches it for me. It doesn't get much better than this for a big, repunched mm! Aren't these wartime 5c mintmarks the largest ever on US coins?
Yes Kurt you are correct , and just about every war time nickel produced is a variety . In the 1943 P nickel alone probably close to 100 known varieties .
Definite doubling on the P but not worth a lot as they are too many varieties to even consider trying to collect them all.
Nice. RPMs on these are incredibly common, but still pretty cool. I've heard it said that more War nickels have RPMs than don't.
There are more varieties in war nickels then most series alone. Some very cool ones..... you can go to Varietyvista.com and down load free the list. I keep one on my smart phone as a quick reference at shows.
Ok, will have to re-examine all my war nickels, that will keep me from buying more coins for a couple days .
