Am I reading the price guide correctly that there are 2 different 1942-P nickels? One with the silver and the one without?

There aren't, there are two 1942-Ps.

 

Of course, you could get technical, and say that there is only one 1942-P issue, one 1942-D, one 1942-S, and one 1942-no mintmark.
