Can someone give an opinion about this half dollar? It looks like in a very good conservation but the price is low (silver is around 10$-8€).
I never saw a Walking Liberty half dollar in my life (I live in Europe), I would like to buy this but I fear to get a Chinese fake. The seller doesn't accept refund and this isn't a good sign. He wrote in the description: "every coin in my page is genuine", but I fear he wrote that to make a false good impression.
Thank you very much and sorry if I made some mistakes (English isn't my primary language).

Looks real to me but with that image, you really can't tell much about the coins condition. It looks polished.

Why do people say "the price is low" when the auction is still in progress? It is not a selling price on a complete auction, its only a current price on an ongoing auction. The final sale price might be $55 USD.

The coin seems to have certain amount of luster, but the reflection shows it might be AU. There is also some crap at 2 and 3 o'clock near the edge.

Deff have to agree with idhair I think its polished but without better pics I'd stay away I do a lot of auction on ebay and I get emails and calls daily about the products I have on ebay you should just email the seller and ask questions on the weight if it has been cleaned and request pictures.

I agree with Larry... and most of his other coins look cleaned/polished. Melt value on this coin is about 8 Euro.

When I see coins that have photos taken of them from oblique angles I tend to think the seller is hiding a problem with the coin, usually a cleaning or some distracting marks that can be hidden with camera tricks or even photoshop. This looks like a run of the mill, possibly cleaned or polished half dollar.

Yes it looks polished. This coin is worth nothing more than the silver it consists of: http://www.coinflation.com/coins/1916-1947-Silver-Walking-Liberty-Half-Dollar-Value.html
If you won it with the next highest bid increment, add in shipping, you are looking at: http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=6.52&From=EUR&To=USD

To me, this isn't the kind of coin I would buy singly and pay shipping for. This is the type of junk silver 90% coin you might find in any mixed lot of silver coins. Unless you are shooting at paying a bit less than $2 under spot for it as bullion, you may find that one with a natural aged look is far more dignified and way sexier than one that's been rubbed till it shines.

    Auction ended at 18,50€ (24$). I didn't bid, that's a crazy price.

Are you looking for a collectible example? If so, it is quite easy to find certified examples at rather affordable prices, and being as you are hesitant to buy raw, this is probably the best way for you to go.

In response to your fears of buying fake; I believe that anyone unable to reasonably authenticate from images should not be buying coins at all; particularly common and easily had issues. There is no reason to jump in head first, so take the time to educate yourself about whatever coins are of interest to you. There are plenty of good, honest, and reliable dealers out there who would happily assist you, and even if the cost is slightly more, peace of mind should be worth the small price of admission[/FONT]

How far are you from Aviano Air Base? There might be a military-sponsored coin club there, a chance to practice your English and to buy coins in the auctions.
