I was looking at my vf20 and the 1 is extremely weak only seen through a 10x loupe. Is this normal? I checked out a customers vg8 and his is barely noticeable under loupe. Would these still qualify as 1942/1. I have two that are raw exactly like his vg8 with all indicators present. Is this normal for thisoverdate? Any help or comments are appreciated. I know the D is hard to see. But I thought the Phili is suppsed to be strong.
The 1942/1 P DDO is easily distinguished down to the G almost AG range. Here are a VF and a G6 from Heritage. The 1942/1 D DDO is of course from a different doubled die, and there was a little more rotation, so the bottom of the 4 and the top serif of the 1 appears attached to the top of the 2, but although weaker, should be visible even in lower grades. Does anyone have a cluseup of the 1942/1 D? I know usually you can only see the bottom of the 1 at the base of the 2. 4 doubles leftwards. Correct?
