    Hi,
Sorry, looks like a die gouge. It is not correct for a 1942/1 D .

That's how it looks like in the red book. It looks quite a bit different than the 1942/1.

    Hi,
I am sorry, but you are incorrect. The 1942/1 D has only a very small remnant of the 1 visible under the bottom of the 2 and slight evidence of the 1 under the upper loop of the 2.

There is nothing from the rim up to the date such as on the one in your picture.

You have a die gouge or another form of damage on your coin it is neither a 1942/1 D or any other form of overdate.

Take a closer look at the pic in the "Red Book" .

    Have Fun,
    Bill

    Hi,
This is a slabbed and authentic 1942/1 D Winged Liberty Head Dime. Note that there is not very much to see around the 2. Although not dramatic like the 1942/1 piece. This is what the '42/1 D looks like.

Note that there is Nothing near the edge as there is on your coin.

    Have Fun,
    Bill

All true as noted. Please note that even in the Red Book any trace of the 1 is verticle and yours appears to be on a slant. Also, note the almost double effect on the 4 lower portion on a realy one. Can not see that on yours. You may just have a form of an error so don't be dissapointed that it is not one of the more famous ones.
