So I know this is a well worn cent. I am going through my coins inherited from my grandfather. He did not take good care of his coins but I digress... I'm pretty sure this is some delam but is this all? Is there something else given the condition of the coin?

It seems to start at the 5 o'clock and run almost to the edge of the coin at the 11 o'clock: 1941 Wheat 1c Rev.Delam.2c.jpg

Hi. I guess there could have been some lamination there, but after all the wear that coin received in circulation, I'm not so sure.

More likely, I think the C in CENT just took a hit, is all. I don't see anything else.

Under the scope the coin appears as though it is peeling at spots. The arrows point to the line of apparent detachment. The oval area appears as though it is like particle board. The area by the C in CENT has a separation with some material stuck between the "flap" and the body of the coin:

Or is this just a process of more severe corrosion?

    Thanks.

Delam would be caused from the planchet having a flaw in its creation, right? More than likely this coin got into some chemical which has been eating at it from the outside? Kinda what I believe now that I'm thinking about it. It would make more sense of the "particle board" appearance.

Everything you are seeing is damage. The coin is to far gone to determine if there was any kind of delamination etc.
