Does anybody have any info on the 1941 S large S Washington Quarter? I think I've found one while searching through some junk silver and any info on indicators for his variety would be greatly appeciated. Thanks Nickeldude
The Cherrypickers Guide to Rare Die Varieties (fourth edition volume 2) by Bill Fivaz & J.T. Stanton lists two variations of this variety. The 1st is the large S with a "Trumpet Tail" style mint mark, which has a rounded lower serif. The second is the same large S found on 1941 S large S nickel, and has a triangular or pointed lower serif. Below are a couple pics of my large S quarter with a rounded lower serif. (or at least I think it's the rounded serif, I'm far from being a pro ) If you post a picture of your coin I would be happy to help you determine which variety you have. I'll post a pic of a small S quarter if I can find one.
Ok thanks. I'll try and get some pics up soon. Do you have any idea of the value or if they sale pretty easily? ND
Not sure how much help this is but, Feigenbaum's complete guide to Wash. Qr's says: " Large S: same mint mark used from1942-1944. Midsection is thicker and serifs sharper than small S" (Breen-4307). Sounds like you can use the 42-44 quarter as a guide. I will put up a pic of the 41-S lg. 'S' nickel. Hope this helps Bonehead....
