Still earning so thought i would post here to see if this is common......or worse still normal. The 1 after the 4 looks slanted. Is there a book/site that educates people on what are errors etc?
Red book covers some of the basics like broadstrikes, dbl dies, rpm (repunched mint mark). Advanced collectors also use the two volume Cherrypickers guide that give all known errors and variations for cents thru dollars. There are also websites that people will embed in their posts to websites that have information. Pick a thread that is asking if a coin is an error or not or look in the error coin section. As for your coin IMO it looks like the coin was the result of retooling the die that struck it due to wear or there may have even been a filled in part of the die that made the one like that instead of normal. Not an error if either of these senarios are true just cool. I have a 1950-S wheat cent that the die was filled so the 0 looks like an upside down D. Kind of cool the coin looks like it has a D and S mint mark on it that's all.
this is post mint damage caused by the crimping fingers on a coin rolling machine. you can find this type of damage on many different dates. Richard
