    I'm leaning towards crud. Try using a toothpick to get under it and see if it comes off. If really hard, maybe solder.

    Not a cud, but possibly a small lamination.

    It looks like the metal on the rim, to the right
    of it, might be the 'source' of the metal.

    ....and could still be 'crud' too.
