Awhile back I bought a ANNLOV microscope to get a finer look at my coins. I've used it a few times but today I had time on my hands and decided to look thru my Lincoln Wheat Dansco album The nice thing with this microscope is you can use it as a handheld or leave it in the base. Found some interesting stuff and I'll post them in another message, but today I wanted to share a 1941 ddo I didn't realize I had. And would probably never have known had I not used the microscope. Not only ddo but the reverse has a die break running almost the length of the coin. The doubling is most notable in Liberty and In God We Trust, but I think there may be some doubling on the 9 and 4 in the date. On the reverse the die break starts at the rim at the lower left side wheat stalk and goes almost to the rim on the upper side at UNIM. 1941 DDO obverse (2).jpg 1941 DDO reverse (2).jpg 1941 ddo god.jpg 1941 ddo god.jpg 1941 ddo in g.jpg 1941 ddo tru.jpg 1941 ddo ust.jpg 1941 ddo wheat db 4.jpg 1941 ddo wheat die break 1.jpg 1941 ddo erty.jpg 1941 ddo Liber.jpg

Nice, but the crack looks like damage to me.

Nice DDO, but that sure looks like a scratch to me.

View attachment 1395635 a few photos of the date and some more of the die break on the reverse. I thought it was a scratch too at first but on closer examination it is raised, not recessed.

Very Nice Coin in appearance and condition! I believe you have an FS-01-1941-102, which has the highest value of the 3 varieties listed in the Cherrypickers Guide.

Great to know. Thank you for the research. That coin was part of a "batch" buy I made last year from a major coin dealer in Maryland. And it is/was listed as brilliant uncirculated. I paid $3 for it. I've found several other potential errors from that buy and hope to post them soon. Thanks again.

You're welcome @Millard. Looking at your coin, I think it should grade at least MS-65 RD, and therefore has a very high market value. I'm giving you a Link to the PCGS page for the FS-102 which shows their "Market Values": https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1941-1c-ddo-fs-102-018-1-rd/37783
NGC also has a Variety Plus webpage, but it does not show any values. Although you have a Dansco Album, I would suggest that you get this DDO slabbed--either at PCGS or at NGC--and find another nice Red specimen for that hole in the Album.

Submitting to PCGS would require that you have a Membership in their Collectors Club, or go through a Dealer that you find who will do this for you. Submitting through NGC would require that you either be a Member of their Collectors Society, OR join the ANA for at least 1 year, or also through a Dealer.

If you wanted to sell this coin, I would send it Raw to Great Collections (GC), and also have them send it after slabbing to CAC (this will increase the number of bids and final selling price); some of the GC prices realized can be found at this Link: https://www.greatcollections.com/Au...695/1941-Lincoln-Cent-RD-Doubled-Die-Obverse?

Again, great info to know. Thanks. I used to be a member of PCGS. Guess its time to renew. I like their website and use its features often. I'd only every looked at Great Collections for their auction offerings. But below the surface their website is really nice. Downloaded their submittal form today. I see they also offer a Free Appraisal based on photos. That's nice too.
