Hi, I have this coin and I have had it a very very long time. One of my first coins in my now pretty large collection. Somewhat forgot about this one but was going through my files and thought maybe someone could give me any advice. I am very aware that there was coated magicians pennies around this time, but after looking at the coin again, I guess it just doesn't hurt to ask I have attached a few pics and, will weigh as soon as I can reach the bottom of the barrel 'per say'.... Any thoughts would be wonderful!!!!
Thanks for the super fast replies, I appreciate it. I will weight it as well, as yes I agree on one side of the coin it looks plated, but all the way around to that one blob looking thing, it is silver. I had a difficulty time trying to attach pics haha but, I will post a 360 and I have it taken in about 3 different lighting. Post some more soon.
Sorry, for duplicates....I was just looking around for different lighting....I have some another file that looks less appeasing but might be of some thoughts...I was moving the light all around to get pics...hard work This place is great! I signed up a while back but have been busy with work. I love Morgans especially and have some UNC Ikes of all years type 1 2 & 3 and some DDO Kennedys. cant wait to get yalls thoughts. Thanks again!!!!
Oh one more question, although I have been hoarding lol are straigted coins collectable? Thanks again & have a great evening!
Yes it's been plated so no real value other than face. Coins that are bent and straightened may have done value. They will always be worth face value but done may be a bit rarer so the price will go up but not to the higher extremely worn bit undamaged value. Welcome to CT.
I think bent and straightened 3 cent silvers still have a bit of value due to their thinness, but not as much as one not bent. BTW, silver can be a color and a element. Pretty much all metals are "silver" in color with a couple of exceptions...wanna guess what they are?
Hi Kentucky, Well as far as your question goes, hmm.....& I am not sure "if I exactly understand your question", but here goes.... Aluminum, galvanized, stainless steel, etc....am I one the right track, or totally of course LOL Also, I am very new to forums and not sure if I am replying correctly. And, I meant to say striated coins before...ya know with stripes all through them. Now I need to find the Kennedy section, I have one I would really like to post. Thanks again for all that replied!!!
Welcome to CT Azariana. I thought you meant striated and maybe spell check changed the word. Striated, sometimes referred to as "woodies" are the improperly mixed alloy of the planchet, or rarely polishing scratches on the die, as discussed here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/can-anyone-explain-what-striation-is-to-me-please.12296/ Here is one of my "woodies." As to added value, not really, IMO, unless someone collects "woodies."
Hi Mountain Man, Thanks....and yes Woodies was at the tip of my tongue and I just could not get it out.... Thanks for that! Very nice! Here is one of my pennies, I liked it and I guess that is all that really matters =D I have a Kennedy that is very strangely woodified and some ole 36's. Thanks for your reply!
I replied, but not under this post...still learning this. I am not much for social media stuff but, coming on here, and reading and talking with other folks, I think I will really like this place.. Oh and yes DAMN autocorrect, I hate it! lol
I don't have a lot of pics on my computer (well yes & no) ... and trying to get the right angle with right light is a real...."ya know what". Here is also my 37 Woodie
With some possible exceptions (Iridium?) the colored metals would be copper and gold which are colored...copper and gold respectively. You're doing great here and I hope you enjoy it. Speaking of Woodies, I saw this one in a "junk" box of Indian Head Cents and had to buy it. I'll be posting other photos of it in a separate thread.
Hey! Welcome. My disclaimer is...I dont know enough about this hobby to even be dangerous. However, I always have an opinion (generally kept to myself unless positive). You clearly have a cool coin IMO! From what Ive seen, probably not something you can sell to send the kids through college but cool none the less! I save all kinds of "valueless" weird coins. Heck, I got PMD that Ive kept because Im an idiot and think it looked cool. I think I have a 43 with the same "after market" lol plating. I think when mine was plated it created a doubling effect which ...well....angered me a bit once I was walked to the light on this coin by the mentors here.
Like I said before it's been reprocessed meaning it's been plated. I can buy these for $.17 each atbmy Local Coin Shop.
Yes agreed, and welcome to CT too! =) Yeap, Collecting nut is correct, mine and yours are just plated coins from the 40's but,.... "and I will say with this with the "highest respect", there are a handful of genuine "Aluminum" accidental pennies besides 44's'..... Pics are really hard to authenticate any coin so, my suggestion is if you ever think you might have something, and post on 'any coin forum' (this is my first & only forum) and everyone chimes in that it is not anything but, you're still unsure...for gods sake just stop in a coin shop and get a second opinion I have owned a handful of businesses, and I have always told all my customers to get at least three estimates! In the coin world, I would always do the same. Gorgeous pics by the way! I finally got an extension for my digital microscope...just seemed it was about an inch too short to get good pics...just a crappy inexpensive one but, seems to work if I use some extra lighting...
