194 (no fourth digit) S mint, Lincoln cent

    Rcv'd in change in about 1955. Any idea of date, origin, rarity, value? It looks copper, not shell casing brass.

    I have looked at it under high magnification and there is no scrathing to indicate last digit of date was manually removed.

    Howdy buzy73a - Welcome to the Forum !!

    We'd need a pic to be sure, but based on your description it sounds like a filled die error. A portion of the die gets dirt, grease or debris stuck on it and when it strikes a planchet that material prevents a portion of the design, often a digit in the date or a letter in the legends from striking up on the coin. This type of error is quite common and adds little or no premium to the value of the coin.
