Hi, I signed up awhile ack but havent had much time to get on. This seems like a great site so Id like to ask for some help. I bought a1939-S with a reverse of 38 NGC MS66 Jefferson nickel. I havent been able to find anything on this piece, the NGC guide does not even list it. Does anyone know anything such as mintages and price? thanks Nathan
Hi, nathan, since I don't subscribe to the graysheet, what I do is sign on at Heritage Auction Galleries (free membership) and go to the auction archives (under reference) where you can search for sale prices, when you find one in your grade that sold recently, under that listing will also be the wholesale and retail price guide and pop reports. You could also look on eBay under completed coin listings to see what they have been selling for.
The population of this coin is 518/108 and is considered one of the key dates to the series. The Numismedia wholesale price is $69 and PCGS price guide is $115. In MS67, this is a $300+ coin.
