I have 2 1939 S Lincoln Cents that I would appreciate feedback and rough grades on. The top two are one coin and the bottom two are another. Is one coin in better contition than the other?

    Thanks,

    Harry

The second coin is far superior.

Notice the strike on the reverse, there is no mushiness in the wheat, and the lettering is strong and crisp, especially the O in ONE, an area that gets weak quick as it is opposite the shoulder and is the area on the coin with the most metal to move and fill the die cavitys. There is no rim damage as there is on the first coin also. Pretty gemmy, lot of luster !!

Both are nice. I think the second one is nicer and of a higher grade.

MS-63 on the first, MS-65 on the second.

Very beautiful coins, I love the 39-S cents, they come out like candy, very pretty! :thumb: I'll say MS-65 on the first, and a MS-65, might go a MS-66 on the second, the spots might hold it back a bit though, but like Jack said, it has a beautiful strike! Nice coins! :thumb:

The first coin I would call 65 or possibly 64. FYI, the biggest problem with this coin is the nick on the cheek. That is the wrong place for nicks. I like that second coin. I see nothing to keep it from a 66.

They are both stunning examples. I would say the second coin is far superior then the first one, at least a 65 or higher.

    Nice coins. edited

I sent both of these and a third (which I thought was worse than the two here) to ANACS for grading. To my suprise two of them were grades 66 RD and the third a 67 RD. Does ANACS overgrade? I'll post pics when the come in.

First, we are grading from a pic. That is not the easiest or most accurate thing to do.
Second, CT is probably the, or one of the, roughest set of graders you will see.
Third, ANACS is not noted to be the strictest TPG out there. That is not to say they compare to SGS or NNC.

Just for your comparison, here is a pic of my 39-S MS67 as graded by NGC.

    And, congratulations on your grades.

Nice coin you have and my pics are a little dark, learning to use my camera better. As far as harsh and rough graders, I'd rather have that then overgrading, which I tend to do.

Here they are. You can get one of the MS66's by answering the
Conservatively graded questions in my contest and predict the final score of the MLB Allstar Game.
