So guys I recently purchased a 1939 proof wheat cent for a really good deal, it’s almost perfect with original colors, and I am wondering if you guys think it would be worth having graded and also, what you think it might grade? It has a line on the reverse but that is the only blemish I can see
I grade it at PR-63 RD, assuming the color is original. IMO it's not worth grading. It's a nice coin though.
It is real hard to tell if the blemish is just hazing/toning, or if it has had contact. Proofs are nearly impossible to grade thru photos.
I get he feeling looking at the photo ( which can be hard to tell) it looks more like a modern coating. Again by the photo. I also think you should send it to the expert @Insider at ICG rather than the more expensive but less looking other Grading companies if you do decide to send it off. IMO, Jim
I agree with the advice here. One more thing to consider after getting an average grade estimate from the group here is the established population of graded coins at that grade. It might bend the decision one way or the other on whether to send in or not. Nice coin!
PR63RD…NumisMedia/FMV lists for $70……NGC for $75. Nice coin but not meeting value to justify slabbing…imo…Spark
IMO, not worth grading. That smudge on the reverse goes over the top of the "T" so it is possibly corrosion of the mirror surface.
