I am looking to get my 1939 D Nickel for my Jefferson Collection and I have some questions. Can some one tell me or show me the difference between the 38 reverse and the 40 reverse? Is one more rare or valuable than the other? Was one struck better? Was there ever a reverse of 39? or did they just change the reverse design mid year/mintage? Anyone know where a nice MS example is to look at?

    Thanks

I would think the best way to find high quality photos of both in one place would be to examine registry sets with photos.

the steps on a 38 are wavy where the steps on a 40 will have a line on the ends like this |____|. I will go get a good pic to post

thanks Koinjester. I have not mastered the Cointalk search yet. So are the steps the biggest difference, or the most visible?
