I bought one of these and it was delivered just a couple of days ago so I took it over to my LCS to test it for me and it tested 18k gold! I'll have to get it slabbed at some point, to make sure it's the real deal as there are restrikes and counterfeits but so far I'm happy with it. The story of them is in the link! Sellers pics, not very good either but I took a chance with it anyways, in the pics it looks like some white stuff is on the token but that's not the case at all. The 5th pic is what the token looks like in hand. Just sharing as some of these at least on feebay sell for quite a bit of money! This was the last year Elder had them made, supposedly for the NY world's fair and word has it only 100 were issued in 1939, they were also made in 1910 and 1927. It's so called dollar HK-493, anyone here have one or ever hear of them? https://www.so-calleddollar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Thomas-Elder-ANA-4-2017.pdf
Just curious, what is the diameter? Nice looking coin. I learn something new everyday on CT. Thank you for sharing.
Diameter is 15mm, little and pricey for sure! I don't normally buy expensive gold but I own some California gold tokens I've posted here in the past, so this one fits right into my collection. The Capital holder itself is unique, at least to me, I doubt it's actually from 1939 but still nice!
I haven't gotten all the way thru the article. I did read the 65,000 dollar question. That Heritage sale in 93' Wow, some folks got a deal on some rare gold. I would be happy to own a copy.
