I posted this over on a toned coin thread but wanted to get an idea of the grade/value from some here. In hand it looks better than the latest photo which I am still working on getting even better detail and tone.

That is a nice coin, personally I would bother wasteing time here getting opinions, I would just go ahead and send it into a TPG and have them slab it. Clearly it is a very high end coin MS66+ so get it graded and that will give you a base value. A bit more for the toning too, if I were to stab a guess I'd say $500++

I am trying to compare it to mine. I think if most people here can give it a 67 then send it in but if it's a 65/66 then I wouldnt bother mainly because I see them all the time on teletrade for sale. (I either have a 65 or 66 to which I paid somewhere in the ballpark of $35-50 give or take). I will try to post pictures of it later tonight (9ish EST) to help you compare.

It is super common date even in high grade and not a D/D or D/S. The detail is really nice and the tone is very nice as well.

Agreed, it a 67 or better then I would hazard to send it in, but like you said, 65/66 might not pay to do it, unless the toning would add a designation in some form.

I've been comparing it to the pcgs online photo grade and it is up there, just don't know how much...
Would love to see yours for comparison when you can post a pic..

Here is my 38-d MS65: [IMG]

I think yours would grade at least 66+

Thanks for sharing that, I like the toning on it and there is some wonderful luster there..I know there isn't a big jump in value until it hits 67 or 68. I'm guessing if it looks to be 66+/67+ then it might be worth sending in. Like I said I don't think it is a D/D or D/S but I need to look at it even closer.

Tough to say - I would say an easy 66. Looks like a nice strike and good luster, but from pictures I can't say 67. It does look like one hit on the buffalo. Harlan Berk has a few 38-D 67's for sale.

Thanks for the site link... I do believe it would go 66+, not sure about a 67 though.. Tough descision about perhaps taking the chance to have it graded.. If I compare mine to one of Harlen Berk's 66 the detail in mine even with the rough photo above just has nicer detail. But I am thinking the hit would preclude a 67.. though might give me a 66+ for detail and tone...

Nice nickel rev. It would be very difficult to tell the difference between a 66 and a 67 through images on here. Have you looked at photograde to compare their 67? Just a thought.

Yes, I did compare it to photograde and the detail is there to be a 67. The obv is perfect from what I can see with magnification. The rev is also there with the detail on the buffalo. Not sure how that little hit would be though and I suppose that would keep it from 67.

There are no hits on either side in the fields at all from what I can see..
