Hi to all , I'm Paddy new to this forum how even not new to Coin Collecting. I am a nickel nut and have two complete collections of Jefferson nickels along with errors and Varieties in my collection. Does any one know... have a clue or guestamate a value on one of the 1938 Fleix Schlag Display Panels? With only 150 known "as Schlag had only produced that many" what the value be on one of these fine collectables? Next part of this two parter if one did aquire one of these display panels could one have it graded by PCGS, NGC ....etc? " On September 29,1939 , Schlag had a group of display panels made numbering 1 to 150. He autographed each one of the panels and also incerted an 1938 proof Jefferson nickel in the panel, included a picture of the award winning Obv. & Rev. of said nickel. With the reverse being the unadopted angle -view of the Monticello. Each Panel was also notarized by Paul Wagner. Ok guys this is my first post and a jump ball who wants to field this one? Thanks Paddy

Welcome to cointalk! I think somewhere between 50 and 100 each is what I have seen the coins going for. IDK about the display panels. I met a guy last week who was in a coin club with Felix. I'll ask him for more info when I see him.

Hi Noost , thanks for the welcome! Yes the 1938 proof Jeffersons price range is around the amounts you noted. However these panels were done by Fleix Schlag are prized by collectors.Again only 150 were made. I have also read that Schlag himself had a hard time getting the 150 proof nickels at the time to have the panels made. It was a good bad thing for him being selected to be the artist picked to design the nickel. The award was $1000.00 paid to him for his design....however he had been a starving artist ...his design was accepted then asked to be reworked. He was also helping out a friend who was taken sick and later died ...some of the money awarded was used by Schlag to help pay off his friends medical needs later his funeral! Not to say that $1000.USD was not a nice chunk of change durring the post depression error. Money always seems to slip thought our fingers no matter if it's in 1930 dollars or 2009 dollars! LOL as a college student in the early 70's I remember living off of $20.00 @ week TG for peanut butter! Paddy

An interesting story form this guy I met who was in a club with FS. He said that the redesign had to be back by a certain time and with all FS had going on, it went down to hours (as opposed to days) the reworked design would get there on time. The man said that it was flown to wherever it had to get to at the very last min. Next month some Cters are meeting up in Owosso MI to see FS final resting place. You are welcome to come, if you can make it. July 19th I believe.

That's right Noost! He said that the money he got for it really wasn't even worth the trouble he had in the first place. He put a lot of time and effort to make the Mint happy. We all are enjoying the efforts afterwards.
