Here's two commemorative coins I got in but hadn't taken the time to photograph or write about. Can't say the Cleveland is a particularly exciting classic commemorative. As far as the design, it is not in the bottom 4 or 5, but it is also far from the top of the bunch. However, Roanoke is a different beast altogether: The obverse portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh is atractive and the reverse with Eleanor White holding her baby, Virginia Dare, the first English child born in North America, is quite touching and sad. The joy of new life is tempered by the reality is that within 2 years most of the colony was likely killed, and the survivors enslaved or forced to integrate into local native tribes in order to survive, and Virginia Dare likely did not survive past 2 and 1/2 years of age.
I have an update. The Roanoke, in a green rattler, was sent to CAC, and I've just found out it got a GOLD BEAN! Here she was before I sent her away!
