Keep in mind, coins and paper currency get circulated, especially one 81 years old. They are like the tires on your car. They wear out, get damaged, etc. Coins rub against each other, get run over in parking lots .. the list is endless on how they can get worn and damaged. Might be best to understand how coins are made first, then think about how they can get damaged. You could write an entire set of encyclopedias on potential ways of damaging a coin.
