Tried to find some information on this nickel but only dot nickel listed is ten years later. Information is greatly appreciated.
According to Haxby's guide on Canadian coins and tokens, the reverse dies for the Canadian nickel were produced by the Paris Mint that year to expedite production. The reasoning behind the placement of the dot is unclear, and I assume it is essentially some sort of privy mark. Moreover, taking historical circumstances into account, Edward VIII abdicated in December of 1936 hence the urgency on the part of the Royal Canadian Mint to prepare a new design. https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?coin=5-cents-1937&years=
