The 1936 P Doubled Die 002 has a pick up point that shows the R in LIBERTY being the result of two different Hubs being used to make the Die. One had a broken R and the other a normal R (pictured below).Yesterday I found a 1936 P that was minted with the broken R die. This is a keeper, I would think. Maybe not? Anyone else found one of these? Photo from Coppercoins.com
Randy, you are gonna have to post more photos of your coin. The R on your coin looks nothing like the R on the DDO. Your coin looks like it could be either a grease filled die, or damage. It has no indication that the coin is a variety.
A debris/grease filled part of the die, doesn't look like a broken die. The lettering is incuse on the die, how can that bit break and fall off? The edges could crumble away with deterioration giving odd shapes to the devices but that is not the case here.
I stand ( sit ) corrected in the corner with appropriate headgear. Of course they are raised on the hub and can break off
Interesting Randy. I would contact Jason Cuvelier who presented the photo you used and see what he has to say.
He’s not saying that. He’s saying he’s got the coin from the broken hubbing. Part of DDO 2 was from that hub was all he was saying on that.
I've found two 36P-DDO-002s and yours isn't it. Let me see if I can find my pictures. EDIT: Here are a couple of pictures. These were taken with my old USB scope which was garbage. Perhaps I should take new pictures.
