This is also listed in Variety Vista but still learning here so thought I would ask the experts Doubled Dye or not? Coins reverse is very worn. Had to gently clean this since way to tarnished to view properly. Yeah I know... don't. Did clean with baking soda, hot water and aluminum foil in small cup. Used fingers to remove grime.
Can you try to get better pictures and possibly say which one you think it is?8 different types exist for the 1936 Philly DDO.It's hard to tell with all the light reflection and glare,it looks similar also doesn't matter F.Y.I it has to exactly match completely. You really shouldn't of attempted to clean it at all unless it was a seriously dirty ground find. Also the correct term is (doubled die)picture below.
Wow thanks!!does it say (it'sd) on my message?that's supposed to be (it's hard)but sometimes a glitch happens for some reason.
Coin had serious tarnish and only saw the doubling on my microscope. Should have taken a before and after. New pic is as best I can do. Revisited Variety Vista and don't see any like this one. Does that negate this being a doubled die? If so why couldn't there be others out there that Variety Vista never found?
Also you broke rule #1. You said it was tarnished before, which means you cleaned it. You took a coin that if it were a doubled die is now ruined because it wouldn't straight grade. Never clean a coin!
Coin was so tarnished could hardly read the date! It was almost black. My cleaning gently on a coin I knew would only be worth a few bucks did nothing but improve it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it... lol But I appreciate your post
