Has anyone else seen the 1936 Dot Canada Small Cent listed on eBay? It is in a NGC holder and graded Cleaned with UNC Details. Is this authentic? Did someone actually find a Business Strike or is this a fake?
Figures show only 3 - 5 known examples to exist. Here is some info about auction sales https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...enomination=1&date=1936&details=0&Send=Search
Here is the Ebay link https://www.ebay.com/itm/MEGA-RARE-...946285?hash=item2d132872ed:g:B2AAAOSwEt9e7hS2 The only "dot" that I see is between the 6 and the leaf. Very poor photos. This has 11 foot pole marks all over it. Isn't the seller's town the same as the old ACG address?
I did an NGC lookup and all the rim dings and carbon spots seem to match and the Seller has a substantial rating. https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/5711319-013/NGCDetails/ I would never pay that much money for a coin without first examining it in-hand.
A coin which is a supposed extremely rare example would surely be sent to a specialist auction and not eBay.
Five years ago someone listed a 1933 uk penny supposedly found in a tin of coins in grandads shed. As it transpired the coin was a scam which had been mechanically altered.
Am I missing something? I looked at the coin, thanks (yakpoo) to the NGC link, and the dot looks like PMD, barely there. How could that be worth even 25K?
My question would be is that a Business strike or a cleaned specimen strike ? If it is a genius business strike it is a unique coin (like finding a 1895 MS Morgan) and would be worth the money. However, as a details coin v what the latest "nice" examples have sold for I think it over priced as a Specimen strike even for something that rare. I agree that I should go to a big auction for sure Oct 2020 PCGS article https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/item/1936-1c-dot-rd/30269/-8950429198260430442
