I found this in a envelope with some other types of currency...Not a bad find, but look on the back. Is there any way to get that off? I was going to try and heat it up then try peeling it off but i dont want to damage the bill. Any suggestions????

Nice looking note, except for the stuff on the back - which if you cant get off greatly lowers the value.
In case you dont know its a WWII North Africa Emergency note. :)

anyways, it looks like paper? I would try to scratch it off, but if that doesnt work, then Im not sure.

The only thing I would even CONSIDER trying is a cold, wet sponge application and very gently at that.

Anything else would most likely further damage the note.

I would try that and if it doesn't work maybe try steam (just enough moist heat to get the stickiness soft) like one might use to separate stamps stuck together. If you try to separate the paper and it doesn't want to go, don't force it!

    Good Luck!!!

FYI - this is just a guess - I have no idea if it will work - proceed at your own risk.

Last thing you can try is Acetone. Trust me just. Paper clip the note and let it hang the corner in a jar. THE COLOR WILL NOT FADE. I have done it a number of times to paper money that has had no other option. I know it sounds crazy. But if that had glue on it then the glue will just full off in a day of two.

nice note, even with the blob on the reverse. good luck in trying to take it off, although i would be very hesitant to holding the note over the chemical acetone. i would try steam, and a lightly wet sponge to dampen the paper. Wost case scenario, even if the removal of the blob damages the paper slightly below when removing, i dont think it would be as bad as leaving the blob stll attahced.

Given the note's condition, I would first try clembo's suggesting using a sponge. Get the paper damp and let it sit for about 5 minutes before trying to peel it off.

If that doesn't work, try using warm water with the sponge. Gradually increase the water temperature, but don't try anything that is too hot to touch.

Do not force the paper. use a fingernail or a plastic straight edge to try to get underneath the paper. If it doesn't come right off, don't force it. I've had a bit of experience getting tape off of older notes and if you force it, it can take part of the note off. Having something stuck on the note doesn't hurt the value like having something missing from the note.

    Good Luck.

The substance is a glue of some sort and I as well would use acetone as it will disolve the glue from the paper. I would not use water and water does not dry the same and will cause the paper to become wavy.

Actually I used a damp cloth with warm water. It looks to have turned out pretty good. I was starting to curl a little bit so i put it in between some pages of a book , and this is how it turned out. Thanks for the help and advice.
P.S. I was a little nervous with the acetone so I thought water would be a little safer. :) Thanks everyone
