Photos can be deceiving, but I can't see anything to indicate it is circulated. But can't see the wing, beak well though. Nice surfaces for 1935 Peace. The luster looks a little subdued, but may be the lighting angle. I would say MS64. $150 range?

I got me a good one; now wait for Dougs' comments!

:eek:hya: The coin looks great in hand. She's got a light 4 spot bag mark from another coins reeded edge from her eye to her brow. Very slight marks there. Hard to see with out a loupe.
She also has a 1/8" contact smudge line at the end of her hair. Like "/" that mark and size and that direction. No scratching into the metal, just a smudge mark.

Ruben, I'm not sure what spotting you're seeing as the only marks on the obverse are the marks I've already described.
On the reverse there is only 1 contact mark that barely mars the coin. It is close to the back feathers where the sun ray that goes to the "P". These are barely visibly with the unaided eye. It's right on the suns ray.

Desertgem, the beak is sharp and the wing feathers are well defined and has no wear. The dark spots over the eagles back is my shadow that moves when I do.

I'll try to post some better shots later today.

It is actually a beautiful, nearly flawless coin to observe in hand. As soon as I saw it I knew I'd buy it.

My guess is it would go in a MS64 holder.

The reverse actually caught my eye more, but maybe the light. I don't know what you paid, but it sure looks nice to me. Peace dollars can be so "baggy". Nice one.

Tough to grade from a photo, but here goes...

I think it's MS. Not too baggy. Weak strike on reverse. A few marks on Liberty's neck. Pretty good luster.

Based on photos, MS63, maybe 64. My bet is it's better in person.

You're not gonna like me very much. In my opinion the coin has suffered PVC damage. The subdued luster is the result of over-dipping in a try to remove it. But they didn't get all of it. There are traces still left in the rays, the hair, and by the T & R in TRUST. On the reverse traces follow the bottom of the wing and a bit in the center of the wing itself.

I also think the PVC damage lends to an already weak strike. I think has even eaten away some of the reverse legend's letters.

I'm afraid this one would be body-bagged Bruce.

Sorry for the large pics, but it make sit easier to see what I am talking about. Double click on the pics to get to blow up to full size.

that would explain the spots. Are you the same gentleman with the Peace dollar a few weeks ago with PVC as well?

    Your getting lucky.

It seems pretty obvious to me that the coin looks much better in hand than my photos suggest. Doug, the dark spots you've pointed out are just shadows in the photo. There are not dark spots in hand, but I won't say that the coin has never been dipped. I'll try some more photos.

These next photos were taken in the sunlight. You can see my reflection on the reverse on the eagles legs and wing, then on the upper wing area.
I have much to learn about photographing coins.

There is something going on with the surface on this coin. Look at this one for a comparison.

From the photos I see I would give it a 64. Also on the first pics I see a spike comming up from the top of the eagle's right shoulder. If it is there you have a nice little die clash.

These latest photos (in the Sun) made some fine scratches & rubs appear to me in the field in front of Liberty and on her cheek. They kind of look like marks that would occur if the coin was in someone's pocket with just a few light scratchy objects. [They are not big dollar-to-dollar contact marks]. If these scratches are on the coin, then it could go to AU58. You have the coin in hand. Do you see them? Without this evidence of circulation, I stick with MS64.

Its more than that. The coin in the fields has a pitting pattern, almost like a matted coin. It is not smooth fields, and it is not normal. Something has to explain it and the best explanation I currently can see is what Doug said, that the coin was dipped to much.

I don't want to downgrade such a GOOD coin. An AU58 is an MS63/64 with the very slightest technical wear on it. I like this coin & would like to own it.

Now I don't know what the devil to think. I thought I had taken a baby step towards decent grading skills. Back to square one.
