This may not be the right forum to post, but it appears I do not have posting privileges in teh "Erros" forum Anyhow, I have an interesting error I just found on a lot of Silver Certificates I just acquired It appears like a negative print of the front side on 1/3 of the backside If anyone has some knowledge of this type error, rarity, how it happens, etc, I would appreciate some feedback
It's an offset printing error. Value varies depending on the grade of your note but I would say $75 to $100: http://www.coinsite.com/html/uscurrencyerrors.asp If a sheet fails to enter the printing press, the inked plates will transfer their image to the impression cylinder. The next 6 or 7 sheets will receive the impression from the cylinder while the other side of the note is being printed. The result is an offset printing in reverse on the already printed side.
Schnauzer4 Welcome to CoinTalk! The Paper Money section of CT would be the most apt placement of this inquiry. You will find more replies there for paper matters. If you happened to have gotten this note from a Seller on eBay whom you have never dealt with, I would be very cautious with valuation and authenticity. In any case, such errors on notes, being easy to fake with modern digital printing has led the market to see a lot of them listed. You may seriously consider having one of the major two currency grading companies asses this note for authenticity: PMG or PCGS Currency
Good tip! ebay is a haven for printing rip-offs (as well as things like miscut errors, altered notes etc.). Before spending hard earned money, it's better to get a confirmation on the authenticity of the error.
