I must say that our friends to the north have some crazy, but unique coins. Every now and then, a set goes on sale that I must have. Keep in mind that up to a few years ago, I absolutely refused to collect anything other than US coins, but now I am willing to keep an open mind. Two years ago, the Canadian Mint released a proof half dollar commemorating 100 years of coinage from the Ottawa mint and I had to buy it. It was so stunning. This set really compliments that coin. There were only 5000 sets minted and it sold out in a few days. I just got lucky and got one of the last orders because within 24 hours of my order they were listed as sold out. For those of you who would like a commemorative silver dollar can still buy them as there were 7500 total minted. 5000 for the set and 2500 to be sold separately. Also, the dollar, quarter, dime and nickel are all 92% sterling silver and the cent is 95% copper. Wouldn't it be great if the US mint would create something like this. How neat would it be if the mint made a special commemorative proof set of Barber coins!!! That would be a must have! Or a seated liberty or bust liberty set. OMG! So I hope you enjoy my pics. The coins are stunning. Any specs that you may see are not on the coin, but rather on the plastic. Here are the dollar and quarter pics.
Last, but not least...my favorite two coins from the set....nothing screams throwback like these two beauties!
And in case anybody missed it....here is the half dollar from the set two years ago. Apparently, they did not produce a half dollar in 1935 and this is why you don't see one included in this set, but the one from 2008 will do.
Very very cool. That is one good looking proof set. I will keep my eye open for one of the 1935-2010 dollar proofs... I have always loved the 1935 dollar, I think it's my favorite Canadian coin that I own. I just love that style of bust, and the different titles noting his silver jubilee. I hope to find one in MS+ eventually. Here are some pics of mine... not too good of shots, and the coin was in a flip while I took them.
