So when I'm traveling out of state, I keep a eye out for out-of-the-way banks (Quarters/Halves for CRH), pawn shops or jewelry stores. I came across a no-name mom and pop jewelry store in an old strip mall. I went in and asked the guy if he had any silver coins he wanted to off-load. He came out with a tray of random circulated dimes, quarters, some halves, a couple of Morgan's and this Peace dollar. No key dates. They were all way over priced for junk silver. This one jumped out at me. I snagged it for $30. Although, I'm still not 100% sure it's a legit DDO. That's why I'm here. Thanks!
It might be a minor variety of the DDO for this date and mintmark. Two things to look for are the D and W in the IN GOD WE TRUST and a doubling of Liberty's forehead. Another item is in the rays on her crown but I'm not sure which ones to look at. A very nice pick up.
I would say yes you found a 1934-D DDO based on this photo. I couldn't see doubling on her forehead in the other photos. The D and the W are strong.
Doubled die, but thevrare variety is the Large/clear D. Still a good find, even with the damage. I bought my AU (got it graded AU58) for $100 from a dealer.
