My next project was to assemble the best coin set I could find from my father's year of birth, 1933. I'm looking in my Red Book, and there isn't a listing for a 1933 quarter. Anyone know why they didn't mint any that year? Even the scammers on E-Bay don't list one for sale.

This is from Wikipedia, it doesn't explain why they didn't mint them though:

The "Silver Series" of Washington Quarters spans from 1932 to 1964; during many years in the series it will appear that certain mints did not mint Washington Quarters for that year. No known examples of quarters were made in 1933, San Francisco abstained in 1934 and 1949, and stopped after 1955, until it made proofs in 1968. Denver did not make quarters in 1938, and Philadelphia never stopped (except in 1933). Proof examples from 1936 to 1942 and 1950 to 1967 were struck in the Philadelphia Mint and in 1968 switched to the San Francisco Mint.

    Something called the Depression.

    No demand for coins.

My Dad was born in 1931...a coin collector himself, he always groused about the lack of coin production from his birth year too.

yup, my grandpa was born in '33.
no quarters, nickels, dimes, and low production of cents.

edit: see how I say grandpa, and you old fogies say dad? :p

pretty much because it was only supposed to be a one year circulating commemorative

The Washington Quarter was started out as a commemorative to celebrate George Washingtons 200th Birthday in 1932. It was never intended to be minted as an everyday business strike coin. But, these coins proved to be very popular with the public that the mint decided to start producing them as circulating coinage.

The rest of the coins are there---quarter, nickel, dime, and half dollar. Also you have 2 types of Dollars...Morgan and Peace.

    You could take a 1938 and cut the 8 into a 3.

    *ducks*

    I'M JOKING !!!

    Seriously though....
If you were making a plaque type gift, I could photoshop one for you and you could print out a nice pic to put in the slot.
(Speedy's is a pretty decent pic.)
Or, you could make a clay replica & paint it.

    Good Luck
