So I found this in my FIL’s coins. I know this is wishful thinking on my part, and one photo is via microscope screen the others are in my hand. But does there seem to be a very faded “S” on this quarter?
There isn't really such a thing as a legit "weak S" 1932 quarter. It's easy to see what you want to see in random markings. That may be what's going on here. Another possibility: lots of people have faked a 1932-D or S quarter by soldering a mint mark to a 1932-P coin. If someone did that, and then the mint mark fell or was scraped off, it might leave traces on the coin. On this specific coin, though, I'm leaning toward the first explanation.
Mimi.... I am afraid that may be wishful thinking. I had a 1916-something dime a few years back that came from a storage house auction. I even spent the cash to have it looked at by the TPG's. It too was wishful thinking.
l I should clarify, a “worn out” “worn down” S. I say that because the coin is not in good shape. Where should I take it to have it checked? Since it’s in such bad shape, should I clean it and try to see that way?
