So about two months ago I picked up a couple silver quarters at spot. One of these quarters happened to be a 1932 first year. It wasn't until recently that I seem to have found a "D" mintmark on the reverse. The mark is light if it even is there; I want you guy's opinions on whether the D mintmark is really there or I'm just seeing what I want to see. And now the reverse
Well worn but still a readable "D" mint mark. Even in the pics you posted it's quite clear. Excellent find at spot pricing.
Of course it a phantom when you zoom in. It's lost in all the pixels. You can clearly see it on the photos the OP took.
I've never heard of a "weak mint mark" 1932-D quarter. On every example I've seen, it's impossible to miss. I think what we've got here is a bit of discoloration in just the right spot, and pareidolia.
I am Mister Optimism. Always on the positive side of questionable calls. But man this time I am just not seeing it. And I have my 3X readers on trying.
I see what the OP is seeing, but I don't think it is what he wants it to be. To my eyes, the size and shape don't look correct.
I see it. I don’t know if it’s actually a Mint mark, but agree with @-jeffB I have never heard of a weak D. On every specimen I have ever seen the Mint mark is recessed into a depression. This coin shows enough meat that the Mint mark should be plainly visible. I think it’s one of two things: either it’s a phantom D, or maybe it’s a former fake D with the Mint mark removed.
That also seems very low for a 1932-D mintmark position. I don't know how much variance there is, but the examples I remember seeing had the D sitting considerably closer to the wreath.
