Grey sheet Bid for 1931s XF $105 ask is $115. I always pay 70-80% of bid so I say he was right on target.
I have just seen 2 AU's go for $103 and $107 - PCGS/NGC certified. How much higher can you get in that window?
Maybe yes, maybe no! Without knowing what you paid, if you bought your coin to flip for a profit, then you might have, but if you bought it because you liked it for your collection, then it doesn't matter as much. I collect Morgans, and I love the toners. Sometimes I will pay 5X-10X CDN Bid for a particular coin. A few weeks ago, I lost an auction for an 84-CC that was a monster rainbow. I couldn't afford to go any higher than $850, and I was the high bidder until the last 5 seconds when a couple of snipers jumped in and it closed at $1250. If I had the funds available, I probably would have bid about $1300, but there is no guarantee that would have stood up either. Chris
** Lately I am not buying much for resale. No I got it for my number one Lincoln cent collection in a Library of Coins album. Still missing only two coins, 1909 SVDB and the 14D. Anyway back to the 31-S, it's probably a XF-40 and I paid about $135.
I'm beginning to think you may be right. Doesn't look like the correct "S". However, certainty is impossible with these photos.
Bam.... blown up to appx 3x regular size. The S is more defined and the area around it is a different color than the rest of the coin. I don't know if I should start to feel bad for Jesse here or not. EDIT: Added inverted shot so you can easily see the color differences.
Thanks for the blow up L., sorry Jesse, I agree with Ltrain & Cerdsalicious. MM is in the right location, but is not uniform with its surroudings...
