    All,
My wife recently bought me a bag of coins (cents) minted in the 1930s and I have found many good coins graded AU as well as error cents.
A half dozen coins of various dates have piqued my interest in that I can find nothing of the history, so I hope someone can help me identify them.
A few of the coins (AU) are from the late thirties and appear to have outlines around the entire bust of Lincoln. Others have the outlines on the facial portion only.
The outlines are distinct and are only approx. 0.001 or less in thickness.
Has anyone encountered this before and what is the proper terminology for this error, if it is an error?
    Thanks,
    Larry

If it is just an outline of the bust, than as far as I know it is common. I have/had several just like you describe. But it is neat.

    Sir,
    Thank you.
I have been collecting since 1955 and have never seen anything like this before.
Have you any idea what may have caused this type of anamaloy?

That would be a question for our error enthusiasts. I am not much of an error person.

    Larry,

    Welcome to Coin Talk!

It is really hard to make an assessment of a coin without pictures or having it in hand but the possibilities are Die Fatigue, excess grinding and polishing of the Dies to remove Die Clashing or to repair other problems or the coins were struck with too much pressure.

Probably a high pressure strike.Without seeing it.This can occur during die pressure adjustments. Not very significant but cool looking
