Hi guys, I have this 1929 Lincoln Wheat penny with what appears to be a die break or die chip between the letters "I" and "B" and a filled in "B" on the Obverse. Can someone confirm that it is a II F-3 IIB Variety? If so, is this uncommon for a 1929 Wheat penny? I see there is no reference for it on Cuds and Coins.
Got a little confused, never head or been to that website. For some reason I was thinking the OP was reffering to a cud on the coin which there is obviously not.Didn't sleep well last night.
I think your coin could be a Die chip error, but it also has a contact damage smear on the same area. Top of L and across I & B it look to have metal movement that happen long before it was taken out of circulation.
I forgot to comment on the coin. My apologies. To me it looks like a BIE error with a Die chip in the B. It also appears to be damaged from a hit which flattened that area and then it was worn from circulation handling. Nice looking for a coin that's seen 92 years of public service.
