Could someone help me identify what would have possibly caused this hole. Would this have happened prior to being struck? Maybe a error in the planchet prior to being struck, or was the hole made after the process. Sent it to ANACS, came back as "Damaged". I don't agree....

I'm thinking damaged after it left the mint.

I would venture to say someone drilled a shallow hole to make sure it was silver and not a brass core.

What does the reverse side look like at that position? Usually if a punch has been used, the other side shows flattening.

I would say it was hit with a punch. The metal around the hole looks raised as it would if it was displaced by being struck with something.

Maybe from target practice by a pump bebe or pellet gun?
