My 1928 hawaiian commemorative half dollar just arrived today, just wanted to share my new aquisition with the community. I have been wanting one of these for a LONG time... I still have a long way to go fulfilling my classic commemorative collection but this just took out a big chunk of it. This example has an overall golden look with blue, green and lavender peripheral toning on the obverse. It does have a few contact marks but has bomb luster and all original surfaces. Definetely a big highlight of my collection!
Very Nice!!! I've tried to pick one up a few times at auction, but that's a coin that always goes through the roof
Hawaiian coins are not my thing but that is a very nice looking one. Glad you are pleased with the addition to your collection.
That is really nice! Thanks for showing! I have a set of nice Hawaiian 1883 coins... Must not look, must not buy, must not...
I bought this one when I was a dealer as part of a collection. I could afford to keep it so I did since MS-64 was my target grade at the time. It is NGC graded. In addition the 10,008 Mint State pieces that were made, there were 50 Matte Proofs with sand blasted finish. I snagged a picture of one of those from the Heritage site.
Thats a really nice one johnmilton, it has a lot of luster. Looks premium for the grade, Is it by chance in an old fatty holder? I have a pretty decent set of 1883 hawaii coins gxseries, the next one on my list is the 1847 hapa haneri hawaii cent!
The collection was a complete old commemorative coin type set, and all of the coins were NGC graded. The quality ranged from pretty nice, which applied to the Hawaiian, to pretty gross, which described the California, oddly enough. There were no "NGC fatty holders" in the set.
