While going through my pile, I'm running into coins I forgot that I had. Somewhere in the mess sat this 1928-D SLQ. I have no idea what I bought it as, but I'm curious about grade opinions, since this type typically poses significant grading challenges. It still has full surface cartwheel luster. I'm having trouble coming up with my own grades. Thank you!
AU 55 The letters show a little flattening which I attribute to handling. Even so, the detailing on the coin is great and the devices are nicely outlined by a little toning. Nice quarter!
I'll say AU55. This is a coin that gets worn beyond recognition easily. Those are some great details. The head and the stars on the shield have some wear, but that gown and eagle's wing feathers are outstanding.
Turns out my gut feeling was very accurate for the coins’ wear level. According to PCGS Photograde the wear is between XF45 and AU50. Per NumisMedia/FMV that is valued currently at $78.25. All the other wear indicators notwithstanding, it is a very special survivor for the SLQ Series, I have to admit that. But I would not pay more than $80-82. …imo…Spark
