1928 B US $5 - redeemable in gold

    I've always wanted one of the notes with the "redeemable in gold" verbiage in the upper left. This one looked in decent shape and didn't go for too high of a price. I've always wondered just how many people actually took these in to a Treasury or a Federal Reserve branch to exchange them for the shiny stuff.

    This will fit in with my two small sized gold certificates that I posted here quite a while ago. They aren't as crisp as the $5, but they work for me. Imagine that, money backed by something tangible. What that must have been like...

    If they were like most of the numb-skulls of today they probably refrained from such.....good Lord I love pocket change. :) And I love that note(s).

    Very nice and it’s good to hear you finally added some to your collection. I don’t think many people traded in those types of dollars for good. They should have but the paper is lighter and easier to carry than gold coins.
