can you tell me, is this note a gold note, or a gold certificate? It doesn't have the gold seal , but in fine letters on the front it says pay the bearer in gold. What would be the value of this note?It is in XF condition.

Please post a pic, as the lack of detail in your question (such as denomination) would all be there and someone will be better able to help. They had different types of notes for this year.

I know what your talking about. It says Federal Reserve Note but it also says it is redeemable for gold. I am not sure about these or what the difference between an FRN "redeemable for gold" vs. a regular gold certificate is. Hopefully an expert will come on here and asnwer.

The early FRN's (1928,1928A,1928B,1928C, and some cases 1928D) had "redeemable in gold on demand..." as part of the obligation printed above the district seal on the front left of the notes beside the portrait. 1928 gold certificates typically demand more of a premium, but there are exceptions. The FRN's have a green seal and serial numbers and gold certificates have a gold seal and serial numbers and do not have a district designation (A-L or 1-12). You can read more about the design change here http://www.uspapermoney.info/history/1928.html
